What is a Comprehensive Master Plan?
A Comprehensive Master Plan is a document that provides recommendations for recreational facilities and services over a set period of time. The Palatine Park District comprehensive master plan will:
- Assess existing properties, facilities, services, and operations
- Determine community sentiment about existing locations and offerings
- Recognize recreational needs as identified by the community and the Park District
- Define strategic and measurable goals for District improvements to properties, facilities, services, and operations
Why is the Palatine Park District updating its Comprehensive Master Plan?
Palatine Park District's current plan was adopted in 2015 and included action items to implement over five to ten years (2015-2025). As this plan is ending, the Park District is seeking to understand how residents view and use the park and recreation offerings, what is functioning well, and what can be improved. This information will be used to help the Park District prioritize improvements for the next five to ten years.
Who can contribute to the Comprehensive Master Plan?
Everyone! Park District residents, stakeholders, employees, and elected officials are all invited to participate in the public engagement process. We thank you for your input!
Why am I seeing multiple surveys?
This planning process includes 2 survey types:
These two survey results will be kept separate, and households that participate in the statistically valid survey may also participate in the online survey.
If your household is not selected to participate in the statistically valid survey, we encourage your feedback through the online survey and at our community meeting and pop-up events.
- Statistically Valid Survey: This survey is specially administered to produce responses that are representative of the Palatine community demographics. Households will be directly invited to participate in this survey and results will be collected until a representative sample is achieved.
- Online Survey: This survey is open to everyone and provides an opportunity for any Palatine Park District resident or participant to provide their input. It includes many of the same questions as the statistically valid survey but is not limited to specific households.

What happens to the information I share?
Your responses will remain anonymous and will be evaluated with all other solicited responses collected during the engagement period of the planning process.
These responses will be used to develop the strategies that will guide future Park District actions.
